Where traditional Korean food is easiest to find

Insadong is one of the few districts in Seoul where hanjeongsik restaurants and traditional tea houses still occupy hanok buildings. Dishes that overseas visitors look for first — bibimbap, samgyetang, full hanjeongsik courses — are well represented.

Prices around Ssamziegil and the main Insadong street reflect the tourist traffic, but a few steps into the side alleys you will still find long-running baekban and noodle houses at everyday prices.

It connects to Bukchon and Gyeongbokgung

Insadong is within walking distance of Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, and Bukchon Hanok Village. Touring a palace, eating here, then continuing to Bukchon is the route that involves the least backtracking.

If you plan to visit a palace in hanbok, rental shops cluster in this area. Walking far in hanbok is uncomfortable, so it is worth choosing a restaurant close by.

Hours and closing days

Some tea houses only open in the afternoon, and many hanjeongsik restaurants take a break between lunch and dinner service. Arriving around 3pm often means a closed door.

Palace closing days empty the streets noticeably. Gyeongbokgung closes on Tuesdays and Changdeokgung on Mondays — worth checking as you plan the day.
